In a recent string of contract ratifications for Local 350, the South Bay Recycling Clerical Unit ratified a new five-year deal on May 27, 2020. The clerical unit was first organized back in 2011 and is responsible for all related administrative work for members who work at the South Bay Recycling Facility Operations unit and South Bay Recycling Drivers unit.
Recording Secretary Juan Coca led the negotiations along with Sister Jeanette Aboytes and Brother Joseph Gomes.
“We have achieved a huge milestone, and it’s all because of Local 350! I would like to Thank Local 350 for all the hard work put into this new contract, especially during these hard times. Thanks to there hard work, we were able to get a great contract with an amazing wage increase for our clerical unit, and we will continue to have our great benefits, especially during these uncertain times it was not an easy negotiation due to the pandemic and shelter in place. Still, in the end, it was all worth it. I feel privileged to be Local 350. Fight Together Win Together!” Said committee member Sister Aboytes
A vote by the four-member unit unanimously approved the contract.
After the ratification vote Sister Rukmini Panda, who’s been a member since 2018 had this to say,
“It was so gratifying to see the union team and discuss the new changes, especially when the shelter-in-place is still going on. Due to COVID-19, when lots of people are losing jobs, you(Local 350) have made a special effort to give us a wage increase along with benefits package. I really wanted to thanks the LOCAL 350 for providing us the best they can, and I appreciate with all my heart for the support and guidance they have shown during my good and bad times. I am honored to be a part of Local 350!”
