(San Francisco, CA) – On September 26, 2023, the 35-member clerical unit of Recology Sunset overwhelmingly approved their new successor five-year collective bargaining agreement. Leading the way in the negotiations was Recording Secretary Juan Coca, who had the expertise of bargaining unit members Sister Lana Yu and Sister Tanya Martinez as part of the bargaining committee. These dedicated Sunset Clerical members play a central role in the day-to-day operations of Recology, and the classifications range from Customer Service Representatives to Accounting and Diversion Auditors, who were organized during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Brother Coca expressed, “Our members engaged in the democratic process to officially approve their new contract, which encompasses five years of consistent and above-market wage increases, augmented pension benefits, and retroactive healthcare coverage starting January 1, 2022. The conclusion of this contract ratification vote marks the end of a challenging 21-month negotiation process during which our members insisted on recognition for their contributions as Recology Sunset employees.”
Teamsters Local 350, founded on October 8, 1936, serves as the representative body for members across the Solid Waste & Recycling Industry, Laundry Division, and Public Sector Division in San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, and San Benito Counties.
